Michael Owen has revealed that he is well on course for a swift recovery from his broken foot.
The Newcastle striker picked up the injury in December's Premiership clash against Tottenham, and it was feared that he could be out for the rest of the season, with even his participation at this summer's World Cup in doubt.
However, he now seems set for an early return to action for The Magpies, much to the England man's relief.
"In the last couple of days I've started to run again so I think I'm nearly about halfway through my recovery," he told Sky Sports News.
"It was difficult to start with because I couldn't really put any weight through my legs, so I've lost a little bit of muscle.
"But now I'm in the rehabilitation stage so hopefully I'll be back In a few more weeks."
Owen also declared that he was unconcerned about whether or not the next manager of the national team was English or not, as speculation builds about who Sven Goran Eriksson's successor will be when the Swede steps down after the World Cup.
"I think it's important that England get the best possible man for the job," he stressed.
"If he's English then that would be great. If not, we need the best manager so I think that's the only criteria."
The 26-year-old is hoping that Eriksson will end his spell in charge with success this summer, but accepts that it will be a very difficult challenge.
"It will be sad when the manager steps down but I think everyone's enjoyed the five years that we've had with him and hopefully we can send him off with a good tournament in Germany," he commented.
"There's many good teams going to the World Cup, but we have a good chance.
"Brazil, France, and Argentina as well. There's lots of teams who can win it, and I think we're one of those."
Good for England!! Good for u guys too.
