John Terry and Frank Lampard have apologised to Chelsea fans for not thanking them at the end of the defeat to Middlesbrough last week.
Blues captain Terry and midfielder Lampard were so disappointed with the 3-0 loss that they failed to acknowledge their travelling supporters after the final whistle.
Their actions provoked a furious outcry from fans, leaving the duo upset and desperate to put the record straight.
"I understand people are disappointed that we didn't go over to them at the end," said Terry.
"A couple of players clapped but we didn't go over. We just wanted to get off the pitch. We were more embarrassed than anything.
"I'd like to apologise to the fans because they were great throughout the game. They kept singing throughout and we were delighted to hear them."
Lampard was equally sorry, and promised fans that they would never see a repeat performance.
"We know the fans follow us through thick and thin, so we should show our appreciation through thick and thin as well," he recognised.
"It was because we were upset with ourselves. We're not used to losing, especially in that manner.
"We always appreciate the fans and we'll be right over there next time, whatever the score."
